Trap Jimi was born with a passion for storytelling and honest lyricism. He started rapping at just 14 years old under the name TEF, which stood for “Telling Every Fact.” For him, music was never about pretending — it was about telling the truth.
“Being from Philly everything was always blunt and direct,” he says. “I feel like the music I make is meaningful to those who lived a similar life to mines.”
Growing up in Philadelphia shaped both his mindset and his sound. His music reflects real experiences, survival, ambition, pain, and lessons learned from the environment around him.
“When I write or create music I usually draw inspiration from past experiences in my life whether it was something that directly happened to me or something just from the environment I lived in.”
Early in his career, Trap Jimi became part of the rap collective OddballClikk, a group that quickly gained attention in Philadelphia’s underground music scene. In 2011, the group released their mixtape Against All Evens, which reached the number one spot on DatPiff and helped build a loyal fanbase.
A few years later, he released his first solo mixtape Excuse My Manners, introducing listeners to his gritty and unfiltered style. In 2015, after dropping a project titled Trap Jimi, he officially adopted the name. Inspired by legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, the name represented both creativity and rebellious energy.
During those early years, Trap Jimi invested heavily into his music career, doing whatever it took to pay for studio time, visuals, and promotion. But life eventually forced him to slow down and reflect.
In 2016, while returning from Detroit after supporting friend and battle rapper Jae Fre, Trap Jimi was arrested in Ohio following a traffic stop that led to a gun charge. The situation became a turning point in his life and pushed him to reevaluate both his future and his music.
By 2017, he relocated to Connecticut after meeting the woman who would later become his wife. Although he stepped away from music for a few years due to distractions and lack of focus, the passion never fully disappeared.
In 2021, he returned with renewed purpose through the release of FKD, a project dedicated to his hometown of Frankford. The trilogy continued with FKD 2 in 2022 and FKD 3 in 2024, helping solidify his reputation for blending street wisdom, emotional honesty, and personal pain into his music.
Outside of music, Trap Jimi balances multiple roles. He works in the pest control industry, plans to open his own business within the next year, and remains dedicated to being present for his family.
“I’m constantly thinking about the next move — from 6 AM when I wake up, until my mind needs rest.”
“The gears are turning all day even when I’m working my mind is on music. But I still find the time to be a husband and a father to my 3 children.”
His work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset continue to fuel his next chapter. In 2022, he collaborated with reggae artist Dubai Don on the mixtape Trappin in Dubai, blending hip-hop with island influences to create a unique sound. He later followed up with the release of TRAPPER EP in 2025.
Now, Trap Jimi is preparing for the release of his upcoming project Saint Trapper the 3rd, arriving May 29, 2026. The project is expected to reflect every stage of his journey — the chaos, growth, spirituality, struggles, and lessons that transformed TEF into Trap Jimi.
